Mackinaw Power, LLC is a Michigan commercial wind power project developer. The company was formed in early 2003 by Fred Keller and Rich Vander Veen. Michael Ford, Kerry Battle and a team of consultants are building upon the successes achieved by Bay Windpower, which in 2001 developed, constructed and operated the Great Lakes' first privately financed commercial wind power project in Mackinaw City, Michigan. That Project secured Michigan's first wind power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, permits and regulatory approvals. More than 7 million kilowatt hours of new, zero-emissions electricity have been sold to renewable energy customers - reducing dependence on foreign and fossil fuels.
U.S. electricity demand grew 60% in the 1990's; Michigan's demand is growing 3% per year. This means we need 6,000 MW of new supply by 2014. Will we build the $6 billion of new generation capacity or increase Michigan's import requirements? Why not harness renewable energy? Renewable energy: biomass, biofuels, solar and new wind power projects will protect our God-given natural resources, diversifying Michigan's 20,000 MW generation portfolio, now comprised of 65% coal, 20% nuclear and 14% natural gas. Dispersed, cleaner generation facilities will increase our energy independence and energy, water and food security. Mackinaw Power projects add value to the "Triple Bottom Line:"
